Shaping the future, ensuring quality
B&W brings together almost 60 dedicated employees at three locations in Germany and Switzerland: Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen, Fulda and Münchwilen near St. Gallen. We are a leading engineering service provider specialising in medical technology and device technology, known for innovative product development and the highest quality. The working culture at B&W is characterised by a friendly, open atmosphere in which team spirit and flexibility are highly valued. From engineers to software developers, B&W offers a wide range of professions that together shape the technological solutions of tomorrow.
Here for you since 1987
We bring complex products to market faster and more reliably. To achieve this, requirements, architecture, disciplines, and verification are integrated early on into a single system model.

Always traditional and innovative
At B&W Engineering, we look to the future and develop products that are not only innovative, but also sustainable. Our work culture is characterized by a strong sense of community and continuous development. We create an environment that is inspiring and connecting. This culture is the foundation of our constant evolution and commitment to creating future-proof solutions.
Our development activities are aimed at making your projects market-ready and future-oriented, with innovation and sustainability as our core values. We are passionate perspective openers and proactive co-thinkers. Our openness to new things and our desire to constantly learn drive us to develop innovative solutions for our customers. We attach great importance to collegiality and flexibility, which is reflected not only in our teamwork, but also in our cooperation with customers – we are your responsible partner who combines competence with a personal touch.
On 1 April 1987, Michael Blumenstein and Gerhard Wiegelmann turned their vision into reality and founded B&W. Initially focused on training and consultancy to integrate the latest technologies in engineering, B&W soon attracted large automotive corporations as customers. The recognition of their achievements led to customers increasingly entrusting B&W with direct development projects, marking the beginning of their successful project work.
Back then, Mr. Wiegelmann managed to rally a young and motivated group of friends from Gerlingen to the cause. Even then, it became clear just how much value is created when we take on interesting challenges and carry them out in a warm and friendly atmosphere! This “core team” at B&W played a key role in the company’s first major successes and, at the same time, had a decisive influence on B&W’s work culture. We consider ourselves fortunate that these colleagues are still active in the company today and are instilling this spirit in the new generations!
Mechanical Development in Automotive and Power Tools
In the early years, our relationship with the Bosch Group had a strong influence on B&W’s service portfolio: We acted as an extended workbench for the Automotive and Power Tools divisions and supported the ‘in-house’ teams in mechanical development. Through this collaboration, our core values continued to take shape: We consistently maintained high standards of quality, willingly took on responsibility, and remained people-oriented. Our customers reciprocated all of this with trust and a business relationship based on mutual respect. To this day, this remains a true win-win situation for us!
Entry into electronics development
It quickly became clear to our customers that, in addition to mechanical engineering, development support in programming would also be important. Thanks to new, motivated employees, B&W successfully entered the field of software development (at the time focused on transmission control systems). Hardware development followed shortly thereafter. Since then, we have been able to offer our customers complete product development services. And this has given us the mindset of “thinking within the system and thinking proactively,” for which our partners still value us today.
In addition to automotive and power tools, the company entered the field of medical technology, which is now one of the company’s core areas. With this positioning, we would like to emphasise that we see it as our responsibility to develop products that significantly contribute to a higher quality of life for end users.
Since 1997, we are located in our own buildings in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen and thus had a good basis for the construction of sample and test workshop as well as an electronics laboratory. These became necessary as our customers placed more and more trust in us when it came to test stand construction, verification and validation, and the number of orders in this area increased.
In the medical technology sector, we have gained numerous new customers from Austria and Switzerland. Opening a new branch south of Stuttgart was therefore a logical step. We were able to recruit Michael Rauscher as branch manager, who had also been looking to relocate to that area for personal reasons. This is how the new branch came to be: in 2008, we founded B&W Engineering Schweiz GmbH.
Over the years, establishing a presence in the heart of Germany has become increasingly important to us from a strategic standpoint. We viewed partnerships with small and medium-sized enterprises like our own as the best way to create synergies. Through our colleague Joachim Schütz, our attention turned to the Fulda region, his hometown. A welcome convergence of mutual interests! Joachim Schütz took the initiative to return to his former “home base” and establish a new location for B&W. And so, in 2011, we founded the Fulda branch.
By the early 2010s, B&W had already built up long-standing customer relationships in the automotive and medical technology sectors, a large network of satisfied partners, established expertise, and a dedicated workforce. All of this paved the way for a leap into a new level of performance. An important element of this is participation in research projects, which led to the launch of international and cross-group collaborations. We continue to take advantage of this opportunity today to expand our expertise and stay at the cutting edge of technology.
At the beginning of 2015, we founded B&W Embedded Solutions GmbH to meet the demand for qualitative and quantitative growth in the software sector. However, at the beginning of 2020, it became clear that the disadvantages of having two separate companies significantly outweighed the advantages, and B&W Embedded was merged with B&W Engineering. We returned to the ‘one-stop shop’ model with renewed vigour.
In 2021, B&W underwent a generational transition. Mr. Gerhard Wiegelmann, who led the company for 34 years, has decided to retire. We wish him all the best and thank him for his many years of dedication! Our new managing director is Mr. Sven Siefert, who has already demonstrated his leadership skills as a team leader, CTO, and authorized signatory. We wish him every success—for us, together!
We are pleased that you have finished reading our company history. We would be even more delighted if you found events in our history that resonated with you. That is a sign that we share common values. And we believe that a strong partnership is built on a shared mindset and mutual respect. Shall we write the next chapter of our company history together?
At B&W Engineering, our services cover every step of your project—from requirements management and concept development to system development and project management. Our risk management experts ensure that your path to success is secure. With our support in industrialization and production, your product is not only developed but also brought to market. ‘The knowledge within a company is a dynamic system. From the outset, B&W has placed great emphasis on making this system accessible to all colleagues. Accordingly, we maintain an open culture of questioning and organise our time together at B&W in such a way that nothing stands in the way of these synergies.’
