Time for some good news.
The German electrical and digital industry is seeing a significant increase in orders midway through the year. The ZVEI reports a 13.3% year-over-year increase in orders for June 2026 and a 9.5% increase for the first half of the year.
It is evident that June was driven primarily by domestic demand. Domestic orders rose by 60.7 percent, driven in particular by large orders from the information and communications technology sector. Orders from abroad, on the other hand, declined by 11.3%. The picture for the first half of the year is more balanced: domestic orders rose by 9.7%, while orders from abroad increased by 9.4%.
More orders, higher demands on development
New orders must be technically processed, validated, and transferred to production. At the same time, existing development programs, product maintenance, and regulatory tasks continue.
Bottlenecks often arise at the interfaces between system architecture, mechanics, electronics, software, verification, and industrialization. A higher volume of incoming orders does not shorten the work involved, because requirements must be traceable, technical decisions require a solid foundation, and tests must be planned in a timely manner. Otherwise, the workload shifts to later project phases, where changes take up more time and budget.
Additional engineering capacity can handle complete systems or specific work packages. This includes system design, mechanical design, hardware and software development, technical reviews, risk management, and testing and verification. The scope of work required depends on the product’s maturity level and the specific bottleneck in the project.
